On May 12th, Selwin Hart, the Special adviser to the UN Secretary General on Climate Action visited MGIMO.
The Guest of honor was presented to the Vice-rector on Strategic Development A.V. Malgin and to the Head of the UNESCO Department, Vice-President of the World Federation of UN Associations A.N. Borisov.
In his lecture, Mr. Hart raised the issues on sustainable development and achieving carbon neutrality by the mid-century, he also presented the main targets facing the world community on its way towards this goal. Among them were reduction of CO2 emissions, retention of global average temperature rise on the level of 1,5 degree Celsius, and switch to electrical energy etc.
The theme of the speech is extremely relevant for MGIMO, which supports actively environmental agenda and sustainable development problematics. During this year, The MGIMO Center of Sustainable Development began to work, enrollment in the university is conducted on newest master’s programs “Environmental Management in corporate sector” and “Sustainable development Management”, aimed to train specialists in ESG areas.
Question-and-answer format occurred at the end of the lecture. Environmental and post-graduate students of FPEK were especially active.
The Dean of School of Applied Economics and Commerce Natalia Zagrebelnaya attended the meeting, as well as Academic advisor of the MGIMO Center of Sustainable Development and ESG transformation (MCUR) Igor Jürgens and the Head of Department of Integrated International Ecological Problems and Natural resources exploitation Ruslan Aliyev.
