On July 7, in Tyumen, the head of the Department of Integrated International Ecological Problems and Natural resources exploitation, Director of the MGIMO Center for Sustainable Development (MCUR) R.A. Aliyev met with the Governor of the Tyumen Oblast A.V. Moor and representatives of the local administration.
During the meeting the issue of implementing a project on sequestration of greenhouse gas emissions was discussed, based on projects to improve the quality of forestry management in order to decarbonize and achieve carbon neutrality in the region.
The Tyumen oblast is one of the regions of Russia in which a carbonic polygon will be established. The project is supposed to be implemented with the support of SIBUR, the largest petrochemical company in Russia, for which the Tyumen oblast is a strategically important region. The future carbon fiber station will be located at the bio station of Tyumen State University on Lake Kuchak in the Nizhnetavdinsky district of the Tyumen oblast.
Due to the fact that the carbon subject matter is included in the key propriety areas of the MCUR, Tyumen State University and MCUR reached an agreement on close cooperation on the implementation of the project.
