On December 10th, the first meeting of the MGIMO environmental alumni took place, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Department of International Complex Problems of Nature Management and Ecology.

The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Economics and Commerce, N.S. Zagrebelnaya. Natalia Stanislavovna thanked the graduates for their keen interest in science and zeal to develop the field of sustainable development during their studies at the MGIMO and promised to continue providing all possible assistance in the development of the department. Welcoming remarks were also made by the Head of the Department of Integrated International Ecological Problems and Natural resources exploitation

The meeting was held in a hybrid format and was attended by more than 40 graduates. The event was also addressed by the NLMK Group Environmental Director and graduate of the Faculty of International Relations in 2011, Nikita I. Vorobyov. Nikita Igorevich stressed the relevance and necessity to promote environmental programs at the MGIMO.

In connection with the task set by the University administration, aimed at rejuvenating the faculty, a graduate student Kristina Zakharcheva spoke about the department’s development strategy for 2020-2025. In her speech, she outlined a number of key areas of development: modernization of the department, taking into account the latest trends in modern educational technology, rejuvenation and training is not just environmentalists in the traditional sense, and the training of “consultant-managers for sustainable development,” opening the master’s degree in sustainable development in the corporate and public sector, as well as the master’s in energy sector, the establishment of inter-faculty multifunctional Center for scientific and applied research in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development.

The students of the MGIMO communicated in a roundtable format, remembering their student years and discussing possible perspectives for the development of the department. This meeting was special and unlike the traditional reunions. Despite the hybrid format, there was a full discussion with all interested alumni. Everyone had the opportunity to share not only their memories, skills and knowledge gained during training and useful in building a career, but also thoughts, suggestions for improvement and modernization of the department.

Participants of the meeting came to the conclusion about the necessity to continue the meetings in the format of the Ecological Club of the Alumni Association and expressed their interest in participating in its work.

At the end of the official part, graduate student A.T. Amantasheva congratulated R.A.Aliev with the 10th anniversary of the department and gave him a picture “Earth” made of resin and semi-precious stones with the wish of prosperity and growth. The project was developed together with the IIM’2009 graduate, decorator Niso Haidarova.

We would also like to thank pastry chef, Nazima Anvarova, who prepared a beautiful cake in honor of the 10th anniversary of the department.
The initiator and one of the organizers of the meeting was A.T.Amantasheva, a 2012 graduate of the School of Governance and Politics.
