On June 19th, a breakfast meeting of MGIMO graduates was held at the InterContinental hotel with the founder and head of the Department of Integrated International Ecological Problems and Natural resources exploitation trade representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Russian Federation, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Envoy of the 2nd class Ruslan Allahverdievich Aliyev. The meeting was dedicated to the topic of “ESG and Green Finance”.
As a special guest, the meeting was attended by GreenEco Investment – a team of 16 ambitious students from George Washington University, MGIMO, Moscow State University, led by Denis Subbotin, David Mdzevashvili and Valery Moor.
During the meeting, Ruslan Allakhverdievich raised the issue of the need to develop innovative projects in current trends of trading in greenhouse gas emissions quotas, carbon sequestration by the forests in a view of development of the relevant Russian legislation for implementation of voluntary climatic projects and development of ESG strategy to the oil and gas, metallurgical and chemical companies within the existing investment incentives. Discussion issues varied from disputes of advantages of absolute transition to electrocars to a problem of the existing greenwashing among the companies due to the growth of importance of ecological aspects for the financial sector and the European regulator.
Each participant was able to share his experience from professional and student life, which helped to fully reveal the issues of complementarity of two critical indicators of projects – profitability and positive influence on the environmental situation.
