On March 20th, a breakfast meeting of MGIMO MKPPECO graduates was held at the InterContinental hotel with the founder and head of the MKPPECO department, trade representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Russian Federation, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Envoy of the 2nd class Ruslan Aliyev.

This meeting is a continuation of the work started by the FPEK leadership and the department to form a professional community of graduates of the department, exchange experiences and involve them in relevant initiatives implemented by the University. If the first meeting of environmental graduates, which took place at the MGIMO on December 10th, was of the constitutive nature, then the March 20th meeting had a specific topic “ESG Factor in the agenda of business and education”. Among the invited graduates were ESG experts representing major companies of the real economy, consulting, and organs of government interested in the development of this topic.

The meeting was opened by Aysuluu Amantasheva, head of MGIMO Eco Community, who spoke about the plans and upcoming events of the community of international environmental scientists and about the prospects for cooperation with the graduates.

A.A. Avramenko, Associate Professor of the Department of MKPPECO, moderated the discussion and emphasized the Department’s interest in involving graduates in the educational process that meets modern requirements, including ESG, environmentally responsible financing; development of mentorship.

As noted by the 2015 graduate of the department, Daria Mikhailova, who is currently the development manager of ESG-practitioner PJSC “Uralkali”, – today the concept of ESG appears almost in all strategic documents of leading companies; ESG topic is interesting now not only to investors and bankers, but also to representatives of other business sectors. There is a staff shortage in this area.

Ilya Milgizin (Assistant to the Advisor to the President on Climate Issues Ruslan Edelgeriev), Daria Kozintseva (Ernst&Young) touched upon the education at the Department, emphasizing the benefits of education in the field of “Ecology and environmental management” as an environmental agenda, research component, worldview formation. Ilya and other participants of the meeting noted that the launch of the master’s degree at the Department of MKPPECO is very relevant, and gave valuable advice on its content.

Graduate student of the department Kristina Zakharcheva – Manager of social-environmental responsibility projects of “Leroy Merlin Vostok”, more details on promising projects of the department in the field of ESG, sustainable development and the formation of climate policy. The main steps to develop the mentoring program were identified, and the pilot project of the ICSD Digest (MGIMO Center for Sustainable Development) was presented.

At the end of the meeting, R.A. Aliev proposed to make such discussions regular, which was unanimously supported by the alumni.

Each participant of the breakfast meeting received a copy of the monograph “Decarbonization of the World Economy” (by R.A. Aliev and K.S. Zakharcheva), published in early 2021 by the MGIMO Publishing House.
